This was a group project/presentation around the topic of Neurodiversity, which we had two weeks to work on.  In our group there were three of us, and although I hoped more people would join, I was happy in the end, as in the process of making the presentation we were able to work well as a team.
I suggested this was a chance for us to show what “normal situations” are like for those on the Neurodivergent spectrum.
So, in order to better explain the topic of Neurodiversity I made a “word cloud” that better encompassed the spectrum, showing how interconnected and complicated the topic is. I gathered the “words” to make the word cloud by asking various others what words like Autism, Neurodiversity, ADHD, anxiety, Dyslexia etc, meant to others as individuals, making the word cloud inclusive to everyone in the process.
In the end we made a longer presentation with the PowerPoint being 69 slides long, which lasted 30 minutes when presenting.
I felt by working in a small group that it gave more time to arrange meet ups to ensure the group work aspect went more smoothly. Allowing us to include our own artwork in the presentation to make it more personal.
Perhaps more collaborative works can be possible in the future?
Personally, in future work I would like to explore these issues more, especially in regards to specific issues within the broad topic that is Neurodiversity,

Images I supplied for our group to use to add a personal touch to the presentation.

Snapshots of some of the "Madness" I experience in day-to-day life.
Picture
Through time lapses of me doing stuff in the garden, painting and drawings of my surroundings, recording the sounds of the madness around me, I want to explore what is home?
What is it to me? Is it “normal”? What does this sound like?
By enhancing the madness of my life and reality through depicting my “normal”, featuring, flowers ducks, birds, turkeys windchimes, chickens, dogs, cats, dad, mum, brothers’ posties/deliveries and more.
Sometimes a recording of what happens with minimal editing is effective enough, as to others “my normal is abnormal”, and “their normal is abnormal”  to me.

By looking at and recording sounds/time lapses in my garden, I want to show what sound means to me? What does sound look and feel like? Through recordings moments of “normality” in my garden throughout my days, capturing footage and sound of, ducks, chickens, dogs, cats, turkeys, windchimes and water.
Through a compilation of recordings and footage I wanted to edit the recordings in a way that shows and depicts my world, with emphasis on how I see/experience it.
I have learned that the simpler the recording the easier it is to edit and manipulate, particularly in regards time lapse-to-stop motion videos.
In future edits and project ideas I feel I need to upgrade my iPhone storage and/or purchase specific tools to record/store more of these findings in the future.

What SIA is misrepresenting with visuals of myself and autistic singer Scott James (as a child) for contrast to what wearing ear-defenders is actually like
This semester I wanted to look more at the issues of representation of autism and neurodiversity in today’s media. Especially in current months as recent events that will have major impact on the outlook on autism today.
One being that of SIA’s recent movie MUSIC, where a neurotypical actor was cast in the role and in place of a neurodivergent individual.
More recently there is that of Mark Robbers “Colour the Spectrum” livestream, where all the money raised goes to the controversial organization “Next for Autism”, a company which has goals similar to and has worked with the most harmful Autism “charity” Autism Speaks.
I want to understand why these situations happen and how I can break the stigmas that perpetuate and surround those of us on the spectrum, by showing what is to me through my art as a neurodivergent/autistic individual.
I have learnt that good intentions can be just as harmful as intended harm, especially when regarding topics of representation. Where harmful messages can be spread more discreetly and to a wider audience though celebrity influence.
I want to look at these issues in more depth, especially in relation to my own autism. Expanding on topics I’ve touched with my “Impact of the artists as a celebrity?” essay.
I do not think I'm "overreacting" when THIS is how SIA decided to Incorporate sensory issues as a aesthetic choice in her movie! Sooo not looking foward to seeing the "trend" and merch that stems from this...

Life Drawing

Through weekly life drawing sessions (which I attended on Tuesday’s mornings 10-12:30 am) I explored ways of depicting the body.
I retained the idea of depicting movement in these studies, since most of my practice is of the body and of myself. I used life drawing as a tool in my studio practice endeavours. I explored mediums I wouldn’t usually use in the studio e.g. using dry mediums like pastels and graphite.
Each week I attended class with intentions that I wanted to explore within life drawing, which would lend itself to my studio practice that current week, this in the end helped me bring both aspects of my practice to one another.
I want to take more classes/workshops in the future to further develop this aspect of my practice.

Collage

This semester I wanted to start playing with new ways of brainstorming ideas that differ from traditional sketching methods.  Through exploring in collage, I was able to come up with visuals and ideas I wouldn’t have otherwise come up with by myself, revolving around topics surrounding neurodiversity and mental health.
I used this method in my sketchbooks, which then proceeded to experimenting with methods of combining collage and painting on seven mini panels, using these as prototype pieces for larger works.
I planned to make seven larger pieces alongside the mini protypes, but due to time constraints five remain unresolved, whilst two are being worked on to a completed state.
In these endeavours through collage, I discovered the value in collecting a variety of images through different types of emphera, ranging in multiple types of sources e.g. print, newspaper, magazines, photos, leaflets, hand drawn elements.
In the future I aim to create large mural sized pieces whilst playing with the idea of the creation of collage being a performance piece itself.
